Exam Board: OCR
In the first year of the course candidates explore two contrasting practitioners which they apply to a text. From this, students write a 3,000 word academic report, write a portfolio and devise an original piece of theatre which is performed to an audience. In the second year of the course students will explore a range of texts and then prepare a performance for an external examiner. This will consist of one group performance and either a monologue or a duologue. Alongside this, the students will prepare a document which outlines their intentions.
As part of the course students will also sit a written examination. For this we will explore three texts which are prescribed by the exam board. The students will look at this through both practical and written exploration. We will then apply this understanding in preparation for the final year examinations. Students will also be taken to see a piece of theatre, they will then write a theatre review in their exam. This will reflect their developed knowledge of how to create quality productions.
40% exam, 60% coursework
General Sixth Form admission requirements and grades 5 or above in GCSE English and Drama.
Drama develops a huge range of skills in students including confidence in written and oral communication, team work, problem solving, memory and recall, empathy and physical strength and control. Drama can lead to courses and careers in Theatre, Media, Journalism, Social work, Psychology and many others.
